Native Gardens is a comedic play by Karen Zacarías about two couples in a Washington, D.C., neighborhood whose differing visions for their backyards ignite a hilarious but poignant feud over property lines, class, culture, and the true meaning of the “American Dream”. The conflict escalates from a simple fence dispute between the nouveau-riche Latinx Del Valles and the established Anglo Butleys into a battle of gardening styles—native plants versus manicured lawns—touching on themes of racism, entitlement, generational gaps, and finding common ground.
